NFL NOTES: Benson practices with Bears

BEARS: Cedric Benson was back in Chicago’s camp working out with the first string weeks after he was arrested in Texas.

Benson was arrested on Lake Travis in Texas on suspicion of boating while under the influence and resisting arrest. He said neither charge is true.

“It would be nice to have it gone and get it cleared up and over with, but you know, I don’t really spend too much time thinking about it at all,” Benson said. “I’m sticking to my story and the truth will come out, sometime, whether it be now or a year from now or whenever.”

Benson has a court date of June 30. He said he does not plan to file a civil rights lawsuit against the Lower Colorado River Authority police, although he has said officers used excessive force.

VIKINGS: Minnesota tackle Bryant McKinnie rejoined his teammates and took part in an offseason workout on Wednesday. McKinnie, who attended a court hearing in Florida the day before, was back for the voluntary-but-expected spring practices known as “organized team activities.” McKinnie pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated battery, which is a felony, and three misdemeanors after a street brawl outside a Miami nightclub in February.

PACKERS: Defensive tackle Justin Harrell, the Packers’ No. 1 draft pick in 2007, will miss all of the organized team activities while he recovers from minor back surgery.

BROWNS: Cleveland still doesn’t know why star tight end Kellen Winslow is not attending the team’s voluntary workouts.

Two weeks into their organized team activities, Browns coach Romeo Crennel again said on Wednesday that he hasn’t heard from Winslow and doesn’t know why he’s not with the team.

In a video posted on YouTube, Winslow’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said his client will be at minicamp in June and training camp in July. He said Winslow, who underwent offseason knee surgery, was rehabbing in his hometown of San Diego.

Defensive back Daven Holly could be lost for the season after he injured his left knee while defending a pass during an organized team activity.

JAGUARS: Jacksonville defensive tackle Tony McDaniel agreed to a contract extension.
