NFL notes: Cowboys get ‘Pacman’ for practice, extend T.O.

IRVING, Texas — Adam “Pacman” Jones can join the Dallas Cowboys for everything but the regular season — for now.
Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday he would decide by Sept. 1 whether to fully end Jones’ suspension, which wiped out the entire 2007 season when he was with the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys play their opener Sept. 7 in Cleveland.
Hours later, the Cowboys had more reason to celebrate, agreeing to a three-year contract extension with receiver Terrell Owens that’s worth about $27 million, according to a person close to the negotiations who requested anonymity because the deal hadn’t been announced.
Jones could be in action as soon as today, the team’s next organized practice.
Jones was an elite cornerback and kick returner in his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans, but an accumulation of arrests and legal problems — including his connection to a shooting at a Las Vegas strip club — led to his suspension without pay on April 10, 2007.
All told, he’s been arrested six times and has been involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention since being drafted.
The Cowboys traded draft picks for Jones in April and gave him a restructured contract that minimizes their risk. The trade includes contingency plans if Jones never plays for Dallas.
BRONCOS: Denver cut mercurial running back Travis Henry, with coach Mike Shanahan saying Monday the move was more about Henry’s personality than his play.
The Broncos signed Henry to a five-year, $22.5 million contract in March 2007, but he was hampered by injuries in his only season in Denver, rushing for 691 yards on 167 carries with four touchdowns. He also faced a one-year NFL suspension in September for a failed a test for marijuana, but challenged the test and the punishment, and won.
BILLS: Police investigators want to talk to Marshawn Lynch after examining the Buffalo running back’s vehicle, which allegedly struck and injured a pedestrian during a hit-and-run accident last weekend.
Buffalo Police Department spokesman Michael DeGeorge said investigators said that no charges have been filed and added police are still attempting to determine who was inside the 2008 Porsche SUV when the accident occurred, early Saturday morning.
GIANTS: New York signed defensive end Renaldo Wynn, a former first-round draft pick with Jacksonville in 1997. Wynn played five seasons with the Jaguars, four with Washington and last year with New Orleans.
PATRIOTS: New England signed offensive lineman Oliver Ross, a 10-year veteran who was sidelined for the 2007 season. Ross spent two seasons with Arizona before missing all of last season with a triceps injury. He has played in 89 games with Dallas, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Arizona.
BEARS: Chicago signed fourth-round draft pick Craig Steltz to a four-year contract. The safety started 20 of 44 games at LSU and had 184 tackles. He ranked fifth in school history for passes defended (34) and sixth in interceptions (11).
