The Stanwood-Camano Community Fair will have one of its stars even before the human performers and contest participants arrive for this 77th celebration — a new main performance stage.
One of the advantages of the new stage is that it is more centrally located to the fair’s other activities.
Some of this year’s activities include a Lego building contest at 11 a.m. today, for which participants are asked to bring their own Legos from home, a performance at 7:30 tonight by the Skagit Rein Riders equestrian drill team and a Veggie Critter contest for ages 18 and younger at noon Saturday.
The Veggie Critter contest involves participants shaping pieces of fruits and vegetables into creatures of all kinds, and securing their masterpieces with toothpicks.
For those who enjoy fast-paced biking action, The Mudslingers, a 4-H motorcycle group, will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Throughout all three days, the fair, which is located at 6431 Pioneer Highway in Stanwood, will offer plenty of food vendors, ongoing carnival games and live music, as well as hypnotist and magic shows.
The fair runs from 9 a.m. to midnight today and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 for ages 12 and up; $5 ages 5 to 12 and seniors; free for ages 4 and under. Three-day passes cost $14 per person. Further details are available at 360-629-4121, and a full schedule is online at www.stanwoodcamanofair.com.
Snohomish Chalet: Saturday marks the 33rd Snohomish Chalet summer festival. From 1 to 4 p.m., residents of the Delta Foundation long-term care facility in Snohomish, along with their families and people with disabilities from the community, are welcome to attend the free event at 1705 Terrace Ave. The day will feature food, games and prizes. Organizers say the attractions will include music and dance performances, face painting, carnival games, model railroad displays, a petting zoo and a vaudeville show by the Snohomish-based Leight Fantastics. Further details are available at 360-568-2168.
Seafair: Seattle’s Seafair wraps up this weekend with its best-known events, including the Chevrolet Cup hydroplane races, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lake Washington’s Stan Sayres Pits. Friday’s hydroplane tickets are sold out, but Saturday and Sunday costs are $25; $5 for ages 65 and over — other discounts apply.
Lake Washington also will be the site for the KeyBank air shows this weekend. The Blue Angels will perform there from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today through Sunday. Get tickets at 206-628-0888 and www.ticketmaster.com, and find general information at www.seafair.com.
