MOUNT VERNON — A 14-year-old hunter from Concrete has pleaded not guilty to a manslaughter charge in the shooting death of an Oso woman he said he mistook for a bear.
The teen appeared in Skagit County Juvenile Court on Wednesday to respond to the charge in the death of Pamela Almli, 54, of Oso.
Almli was killed Aug. 2 on the Sauk Mountain hiking trail. She was wearing blue and was bent over her backpack at the time she was hit.
The boy says he fired from 120 yards away after both he and his 16-year-old brother thought they saw a bear through the rifle’s telescope.
