Tips deal for D-man

Everett made its second trade in two days today, acquiring 19-year-old defenseman Shayne Brown from Medicine Hat in exchange for banished 19-year-old D-man Tyler Kieffer.

Brown, a 6-foot-1, 198-pound native of Stony Plain, Alberta, is expected to add a little muscle to Everett-s back end. Last season in 55 games for the Tigers he had three goals, seven assists and 89 penalty minutes. He was a part-time player on Medicine Hat’s WHL championship team in 2006-07.

Kieffer was one of two players sent home by the Tips two weeks ago for disciplinary purposes. Last season as a rookie he had three assists in 27 games.

The trade gives Everett a crowded total of nine defensemen on the roster, but no changes are expected to be made, at least until Taylor Ellington returns from training camp with the Vancouver Canucks.

Today’s trade came one day after Everett acquired 20-year-old left wing Daniel Bartek from Brandon for a fourth-round draft pick.

Neither Brown nor Bartek will play in either of Everett’s final two exhibition games this weekend. Brown is not expected in town until at least Sunday, and Bartek isn’t expected until next week as he gets his immigration issues worked out.

So tell me, what’s your opinion on the two trades?
