Dailey named captain

Center Zack Dailey was named Everett’s captain for the 2008-09 season, the team announced today. The soon-to-be 19-year-old from Healy, Alaska, was the only returning member of last season’s captaincy, having served as an alternate, so the choice by general manager Doug Soetaert and the coaching staff is no surprise. The effort and commitment with which Dailey plays, allowing a player his size to compete in this league, makes him a natural example for the rest of the team to follow.

Defensemen Taylor Ellington and Graham Potuer and left wing Kyle Beach were named the alternates (I guess this means Beach is allowed to jaw at the referees as he’s headed to the penalty box this season). Defensemen Mike Alexander and Shayne Brown will serve as alternates while Ellington and Beach are at NHL training camps. Interesting that Brown, who’s been with the team all of four days, is one of the interim alternates. He must have made quite the first impression.
