Non-predictions

The season is upon us, just two days away, so it’s the time for predictions. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m awful at predicting what’s going to happen in sporting events. So for the second consecutive year, here’s my “predictions of what will NOT happen this season” blog post:

– I predict Kyle Beach will NOT have to settle for the runner-up spot in the Best of the West voting for most irritating player.

– I predict Zack Dailey will NOT be the player he’s been the past three seasons. This season he’ll throw a few points into the mix along with his solid defensive play at center.

– I predict Everett’s leading rookie scorer will NOT be limited to 25 points like last season. Exactly who that will be I don’t know, but his total could be double that total.

– I Predict the Everett fans will NOT stop shouting “Love” during the Canadian national anthem. That guy hasn’t played here in four seasons and people are still doing that. Can you believe it?

– I predict the teams that are in first place in each division on Oct. 1 will NOT be in first place come the end of the season. With NHL training camps starting so late and everyone missing their best players, the first two weeks can probably be disregarded.

– I predict Everett will NOT see every team’s No. 1 goaltender this season, as the Tips have the past two seasons.

– But I predict Everett will NOT struggle quite as much as most people expect, though I don’t expect the Tips to contend for the U.S. Division title. In fact, the Tips could easily finish fourth again this year, though the attitude toward that would be significantly different.

– I predict Brandon will NOT be making a return appearance when the Wheat Kings host the 2010 Memorial Cup (oops, is there an affirmative prediction hiding in there?). Brandon will come up just short this season, losing in the WHL finals.

– I predict Spokane will NOT repeat as Memorial Cup champion and Tri-City will NOT repeat as Scotty Munro Trophy winner. However they may very well swap those positions, their returning teams should be that good.
