Transit agencies are about to initiate a series of changes in Snohomish County to better serve the increasing number of drivers switching to buses and trains.

Sound Transit and Community Transit are adding bus service this weekend. On Sunday, a new park-and-ride station with 400 parking spaces is scheduled to open for service. On Monday, another Sounder train round trip is to debut on the Everett-Seattle route.

All the changes are happening around the same time to help people adjust to new schedules and options, said Martin Munguia, a spokesman for Community Transit.

“We do coordinate,” Munguia said. “We initiate what would be good for our system.”

Here are the proposed transit changes in the county over the next few days.

Saturday: Sound Transit starts adding 13 bus trips per day for its Snohomish County routes. Route 510 between Everett and Seattle is set to add nine trips. Route 511 between Ash Way in Lynnwood and Seattle is to have another morning trip. Route 532 between Everett and Bellevue is to add three trips. For more information call 800-201-4900 or go to www.soundtransit.org.

Sunday: A new park-and-ride lot is set to open in the median of I-5 near 112th Street SE in south Everett. The $32 million station has new ramps to allow carpools and buses to directly enter and exit the freeway’s carpool lanes, saving time. Buses from Sound Transit and Everett Transit are expected to make stops at the station with 400 parking spaces.

Also, Community Transit is scheduled to increase bus service between Lynnwood and Smokey Point. The change should allow people to catch a bus every 15 minutes at the Lynnwood Transit Center or Everett Station heading to Smokey Point via Marysville. For more information call 800-562-1375 or go to www.communitytransit.org.

Monday: The fourth Sounder train round trip is set to debut; it is scheduled to leave Everett at 5:45 a.m. and arrive in Seattle at 6:44 a.m. The other three trips will follow afterward on a new schedule to provide better connections with ferries in Mukilteo.
