Residential development opponents plan rally

The Rally for Better Planning is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the intersection of Lakewood Road and Marine Drive. A picnic will follow.

The Seven Lakes group and the Warm Beach Stewards plan to protest what they call “bad planning” practices by Snohomish County.

The Snohomish County hearing examiner recently struck down a proposed 100-unit apartment building proposed for Warm Beach. The Warm Beach Senior Community, a nonprofit enterprise of the Pacific Northwest Free Methodist Church that proposed the development, is appealing the decision to the County Council.

The Seven Lakes group is fighting a proposal by the McNaughton Group of Edmonds for 820 homes north of Lake Goodwin. The company also may apply to build a fully contained community, or mini-city, of up to 6,000 homes in the area.
