Jeff Camp brings another question to the table today:
“Hi Nick. Quick question. The Kootney Ice have realesed Ales Frieb, a 19-year-old Euro. What is the chance the Tips might go after him?”
The team’s been out of town since the time Frieb was released and I haven’t been in position to make any inquiries, so all I can do is speculate. Everett has an open European roster spot, so the Tips could put in a claim if they wanted. However, I’d be shocked if they do. Everett’s already leaving quality forwards in the stands as healthy scratches, even without Kyle Beach back, and these are younger guys who need game time to develop. Also, Everett has six 19-year-olds on the roster already, only three of whom can come back next season as overagers, and the Tips (probably) aren’t loading up for a cup run this season. Given those circumstances, I just can’t see Everett bringing in an 89 unless it’s a major impact player, and it’s hard to imagine a player being cut right now fits that criteria.
