LYNNWOOD — Firefighters urged the public to be cautious after responding to a school fire last week.

The fire was reported at College Place Middle School about 9:15 a.m. Sept. 26, Lynnwood Fire Department spokeswoman Cathy Rizzo said in a press release.

The fire started in a restroom trash can and was extinguished by school staff. No damage was done.

Rizzo said a student admitted to setting the fire and will receive appropriate disciplinary action.

Small school fires have become more frequent over the past two years, Lynnwood Fire Marshal LeRoy McNulty said in a press release.

He said the fires starting at schools when they are full of people are especially concerning.

To prevent danger, even insignificant fires at schools should be always reported to 911, McNulty said.
