Get your chili on for a cook-off in Everett
Published 1:25 pm Tuesday, October 7, 2008
Ready, set, cook: An Everett kitchen store will host a chili cook-off and a pie-baking contest this fall.
J. Matheson Kitchen and Gourmet, 2609 Colby Ave., wants you to bring your best batch of chili to the store at 11 a.m. Oct. 25.
The chili needs to be precooked and warm; bring it in a slow-cooker with a cord. Judges will taste the chili and announce a winner later that afternoon. The public is welcome to sample the chili between noon and 1 p.m.
Bring your best homemade pie to a pie baking contest at 1 p.m. Nov. 1. Pies must be made from scratch: no canned fillings, boxed puddings or other shortcuts. Pies should be baked in a 8 to 10-inch pie pan. The contest is for amateurs only. Pies will be judged on appearance, crust, filling and originality. Label the pie pan with your name and phone number.
For both contests, first prize winner gets a $50 store gift certificate and four runners-up receive store merchandise.
For more information, call the store at 425-258-4589.
