MONROE — Monroe School Board member Debra Kolrud received a Key Award from the Washington Coalition for Open Government on Wednesday for her efforts to make the school board more transparent.
Kolrud objected when district staff and their attorney proposed briefing board members on a controversial housing-development impact fee in groups of two or three to avoid a quorum and skirt Washington’s Open Public Meetings Act, according to the Washington Coalition for Open Government. After she objected, that discussion was held in a public meeting.
Kolrud joined the school board in January.
The Washington Coalition for Open Government is a nonpartisan group dedicated to strengthening the state’s open government laws and protecting the public’s access to government at all levels.
