Everett’s Frauenholtz honored by Seahawks

Jake Frauenholtz has already been to two Seahawks games this year. But his third trip to Qwest Field will definitely be more memorable.

Frauenholtz, a senior at Everett High School who plays on the Seagulls football team, was told Tuesday he is the Washington State U.S. Army High School Player of the Week. The program is a combined effort between the U.S. Army and the Seattle Seahawks.

This past Friday Frauenholtz — a 6-foot, 195-pound receiver/cornerback/punter/returner — scored four touchdowns (three receiving and one rushing) in a 40-13 Wesco 3A victory over Shorecrest. He also intercepted two passes.

The standards for choosing the U.S. Army Player of the Week are dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership, reliability and weekly performance. The perks of being selected — and there are many — include getting two Seahawks game tickets and a sideline tour of Qwest Field. Frauenholtz will be recognized on the stadium video screen.

There’s more. Frauenholtz also gets:

n A $250 Associated Student Body fund grant for Everett High.

n Recognition on Seahawks.com.

n A personalized team jersey.

n A U.S. Army Player of the Week patch.

Frauenholtz said he learned about the honor when an Everett High administrator announced it in person Tuesday during Frauenholtz’s third-period history class.

“Everybody in our class was just so surprised and I was just shocked. It was crazy,” said Frauenholtz.

He attributed much of his success against Shorecrest to teammates. “It was a good game but our team had a good game behind me. I just happened to follow some good blocks,” Frauenholtz said.

Asked who will get his extra Seahawks ticket, Frauenholtz said he’ll bring his dad, Brian Frauenholtz.

On Friday Jake Frauenholtz will try to help Everett earn a 3A quad-district playoff berth. The Seagulls (2-1 in conference, 5-3 overall) play Meadowdale (2-1, 4-3) at 8 p.m. Friday at Edmonds Stadium.
