The Adeline Inn on the River, a retirement home in Arlington, offers a special Veterans Day tea for seniors at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The event encourages social interaction among elders in the community.

Camano Island
Chili and chowder benefit set for Saturday
The 13th annual Camano Island Chamber of Commerce Chili and Chowder Cookoff is set for 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road.
The chamber expects about 1,500 people to participate in the fundraising event. Cost is $10 for 10 tastes of 60 different kinds of chili and chowder.
An art auction, raffle, entertainment and prizes are planned.

Marysville
Wood stove exchange discount available
Anyone with an old wood stove may be able to receive a credit toward purchasing a more efficient heating device.
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is offering discounts of $750 to $3,000 to residents of Marysville, Everett and Darrington to encourage them to replace uncertified wood stoves with cleaner-burning appliances that will improve air quality while saving homeowners money.

Program focuses on history of democracy
A program on the history of voting and democracy in the United States is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St.
Illustrator Craig Orback, using his books on John Adams, Nathan Hale, Susan B. Anthony and other historical figures, will show how these individuals contributed to democracy in American history. Orback also plans to lead a class in illustration.

Genealogists to meet
Whidbey Island Genealogical Searchers meet the second Tuesday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the fire station at 2720 N. Heller Road.
On Tuesday the group plans to hear from Jim Johnston of the Heritage Quest Library in Sumner. The meeting is open to all genealogists.

Stanwood
Senior center offers rummage, bake sale and holiday event
The Stanwood Community and Senior Center offers a rummage sale and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday at the center, 7430 276th St. NW. Sales benefit the center.
Tickets are also on sale for the center’s Festival of Trees celebration Dec. 5 at Tazer Valley Farm, 7314 300th St. NW. Festivities include wine, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and homemade Norwegian treats. About 25 decorated Christmas trees will be auctioned, with proceeds going to such organizations as Camano Animal Shelter, Josephine Social Services, Stanwood-Camano Rotary Club, Stillaguamish Grange and the community center. Tickets are $35 each and are available at the center.
There is no charge for family day events, including a visit with Santa, on Dec. 6, also at Tazer Valley Farm.
