Arlington

County councilman plans town hall meeting

Snohomish County Councilman John Koster of Arlington has scheduled a town hall meeting, set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

Koster plans to talk about the financial challenges facing the county and how revenue shortfalls could affect county services. Land-use topics also are on the agenda.

People are encouraged to bring their questions and concerns to the meeting, Koster said.

Rotary Club sponsors concert at Byrnes Center

Arlington Rotary Club is sponsoring a concert by well-known Northwest harpist Bronn Journey, set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Byrnes Performing Arts Center at Arlington High School, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.

Tickets are $15. A portion of the proceeds will benefit community Thanksgiving programs. Rotarians also are asking those who attend to bring a can of food to donate at the concert hall door.

Granite Falls

Children’s author to read from her book at library

Children’s illustrator and storyteller Kathleen Kemly plans to share her story, “Shannon and the World’s Tallest Leprechaun,” at 4 p.m. Monday at the Granite Falls Library, 815 E. Galena St.

The story is about a young girl, a 6-foot tall leprechaun and dancing shoes.

Marysville

Heavy rain postpones new dog park’s opening

Flooding has postponed the opening of Strawberry Fields for Rover Off-Leash Park that was scheduled for Saturday.

The event has been rescheduled to 9 a.m. Dec. 6 at the park, next to the Strawberry Fields Athletic Complex at 6100 152nd St. NE.

City looking for musical talent for summer shows

The city of Marysville is seeking musical talent for the 2009 Sounds of Summer Concert Series.

Concerts take place on Thursday afternoons and Friday evenings in July and August. The city hopes to book musical acts late this year and early in 2009.

Stanwood

‘Midsummer’ to brighten autumn at high school

The Stanwood High School drama department is set to present Shakespeare’s romantic comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday, in the Stanwood High School Performing Arts Center, 7400 272nd St. NW.

Doors open 30 minutes before show time and the play runs about two hours.

Warm Beach

North County firefighters collecting food and toys

North County Fire-EMS firefighters are collecting toys and canned food to be donated to the Stanwood Food Bank and Christmas House.

Donations can be made through Dec. 12 at the Warm Beach Fire Station, Freeborn Fire Station and the Bryant Fire Station. In addition, donations can be dropped off at the Stanwood Haggen Starbucks and the Stanwood Starbucks in the QFC Village.
