EVERETT — Firefighters are planning to trade in their axes for serving forks at the Everett Senior Center this weekend.

The Everett Firefighters Association has scheduled its fifth annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Everett Senior Center.

Dave DeMarco is the secretary treasurer for the association. DeMarco said more than 600 seniors are expected to attend the event. About 40 firefighters will be serving turkey, stuffing and the usual Thanksgiving fare.

“A lot of these seniors don’t have family in the area, so we pick the Sunday before Thanksgiving to give them a traditional meal,” DeMarco said. “Our families even come and help. Last year we had a 2-year-old serving. It’s a great event with a generally happy crowd.”

Guests are asked to provide at least one nonperishable food item for the Everett Firefighters Association food drive.

Seating times for the dinner are noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m. for seniors 55 and older at 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett.

Reservations are required and can be made at 425-257-8780.
