Why weren’t roads cleared properly?

I was happy to see Julie Muhlstein’s column on Everett’s icy streets on Wednesday. I also have not seen a single plow in town all week and the roads are certainly an indication of that. We had to drive to Marysville and I was astonished at how great the roads were compared to Everett. Are Evergreen Way and Broadway not considered main arterials?
Now we have even more snow mixed on top of the old, icy mess that wasn’t cleared properly to begin with. Everett’s population is quite large, compared to Marysville, Lake Stevens and Monroe. It seems that Everett should use de-icing chemicals to make the roads safer, and that the roads shouldn’t be as treacherous as they are.
Come on, Everett, get with the program and make our streets safer.
