Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone was able to enjoy the holidays, and I hope you were all able to avoid getting snowed in. For those readers from outside the Puget Sound region, we’ve had a record snowstorm the past two weeks, and given that we don’t get much snow here and there’s many hilly areas, we’re not equipped to handle weather like this. As I type I’m still looking at about nine inches of slush in the driveway of my apartment complex, with vehicles of all sorts stuck spinning their wheels trying to manuever. I survived the Seattle ice storm of 1990. I think this one has been even worse.
However, it appears the worst of it is behind us now, and it’s time to talk hockey again. The Tips returned to town today and practice just once before games start up Saturday, with Everett having a home-and-home weekend against the Chilliwack Bruins. The Tips have been off for two weeks, so I suspect they’ll have a considerable amount of rust to shake off when they take the ice tomorrow night. The good news for Everett is defenseman Trevor Bauer should be fully recovered from his shoulder injury, meaning the Tips will actually have a choice of defensemen for a change. Also, defenseman Shayne Brown has reportedly made further progress with his hip-flexor strain. He’s not ready to play just yet, but at least Everett is hopeful he’ll be able to return eventually.
And remember, for those of you who are unable to attend the games this weekend, the online video feeds are available this weekend free of charge. So if your driveway is still iced over, you can still follow the Tips.
