Lynnwood man arrested in 2006 church fire

LYNNWOOD – A 20-year-old Lynnwood man was arrested Monday in connection with a July 2006 fire that caused $1.5 million damage to the Maple Park Lutheran Brethren Church.
The man allegedly confessed to police that he had lit toilet paper on fire inside a port-a-potty next to the church, according to a police report.
Police caught up with the man after someone gave the pastor the suspect’s name.
The suspect told detectives that he likes looking at fire and smelling smoke,the police report said. He said the fire got out of control; he became scared and ran away.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of second-degree arson.
