Kylin Munoz, Monroe High School’s All-American volleyball player, has asked for a release from the NCAA letter of intent she signed with Brigham Young University.
Munoz, a senior, announced the move Friday in an e-mail to several news organizations.
A two-time Herald All-Area Player of the Year, Munoz signed with BYU in November. She said she has applied to the University of Washington, where her mother, April Munoz, played volleyball.
“My decision to forego playing for the Cougars next year was not made easily, but ultimately something I felt necessary for personal reasons,” Kylin Munoz wrote in the e-mail. “I wish the BYU program and Coach (Shay) Goulding the best of luck in their volleyball future.”
Munoz, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, is ranked No. 6 in the nation on prepvolleyball.com’s Senior Ace list. In a Nov. 24 release on the BYU Web site, Goulding called Munoz “one of the most sought-after recruits in the country, and we are extremely excited for her to wear a BYU jersey.”
