Prep boys basketball: South Whidbey’s demise is a tale of 2 radically different halves

Published 11:36 pm Friday, January 16, 2009

SHORELINE — In the first half of Friday’s Cascade Conference battle, South Whidbey could do no wrong, playing perhaps their best half of the season. The second half was a much different story.

South Whidbey led 26-21 at halftime, shooting 50 percent in the first half. In the second half, the Falcons were outscored 38-17, shooting just nine percent on 2-for-22 shooting.

“It was a tale of two halves,” South Whidbey coach Scott Collins said.

Scott Stallman had 17 of his 18 points for South Whidbey in the first half, hitting on six of seven shots. In the second half, he scored only one point, and was 0-for-10 from the field.

Karl Clocksin led a very balanced King’s attack with 11 points. Alex Mar had seven points and 10 assists for King’s.

Collins said his team played their best half of the season, and the worst half of the season all in the same game.

“It was a road game at King’s. We will take the positives out of it,” Collins said. “We know now we can compete against them.”
