TALKING POINTS
I’m tired.
And so, it seems, are the Tips.
Everett led 4-2 going into the third period tonight, but when Kamloops turned on the jets in the third the Tips couldn’t respond, which is perfectly understandable given the week’s circumstances. In all honestly, Everett was fortunate to hold out for a point tonight.
Everett also didn’t help its own cause, giftwrapping Kamloops several power plays with unnecessary penalties. It’s a double whammy when it’s your veteran penalty killers who are taking those penalties.
It was also Everett’s first loss in a shootout this season. The Tips were 4-0 in shootouts previously.
TURNING POINT
Early in the third period, with Everett leading 4-2, Kamloops broke three-on-two. C.J. Stretch made a great move, delaying his shot before snapping it past Everett goaltender Kent Simpson, cutting the lead to one and sending Kamloops on its way.
HIT OF THE DAY
Nothing out there really inspired me today.
THREE STARS
First star: Stretch. Two goals and an assist for a player who’s really broken out this season.
Second star: Tyler Maxwell, Everett. Two goals on the power play, though his linemates were the ones who did the hard part with great feeds.
Third star: Shayne Wiebe, Kamloops. Two assists and strong on the puck, though his three minor penalties didn’t help the Blazers at all.
The Herald’s honorable mention: Byron Froese, Everett. Had one of those great feeds to Maxwell, had several good scoring chances himself, and played a solid two-way game.
LINEUP NOTES
Everett remains without left wing Daniel Bartek (foot) and defenseman Chris de la Lande (groin) because of injury. Left wing Tyler Parker and defenseman Trevor Bauer cycled back into the lineup, with right wing Cameron Abney and defenseman Paul Sohor cycling out as healthy scratches.
Kamloops was without captain Scott Wasden as the overage center is serving a suspension of indetermined length for a kneeing major ioncurred Friday against Tri-City. Defenseman Brandon Underwood is out with a hand injury.
