Country living expo in Stanwood

Schooled in Stanwood: With more than 100 classes to choose from and 64 speakers, the 2009 Country Living Expo &Cattlemen’s Winterschool offers a wealth of learning opportunities.
Though much of the event is aimed at small-scale farmers and ranchers, urban gardeners and people interested in country living are welcome at the event, which drew 500 participants last year.
Learn how to raise beef cattle, tend honeybees, make cheese or prune backyard fruit trees. There are also classes on canning and freezing food, garden drip irrigation systems, rain-barrel construction and cider-making.
Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Stanwood High School, 7400 272nd St. NW, Stanwood.
Admission is $45 and includes a continental breakfast, the keynote address, five class sessions, a smoked prime rib lunch and an all-day trade show.
