TALKING POINTS

Well, one step forward and one step back for the Tips. A night after turning in a inspired and organized effort against Seattle, the Tips looked lackluster and scattered tonight against Tri-City.

The most telling stat as far as describing the differences between Friday and Saturday? Against Seattle the Tips allowed jut 24 shots on goal. Against Tri-City Everett allowed 27 IN THE SECOND PERIOD ALONE. That’s the most the Tips have ever allowed in one period in franchise history.

Tri-City finished with 53 shots total. Only the goaltending of Kent Simpson kept this one from getting ugly.

TURNING POINT

Everett was leading 1-0 midway through the first period when Mitch Fadden set up Johnny Lazo twice in 11 seconds, inverting the score in a flash.

HIT OF THE DAY

Not one hit made me sit up and take notice tonight. That goes a long way toward explaining Everett’s performance (Tri-City didn’t need to hit because the Americans had the puck the entire time).

THREE STARS

First star: Lazo. Good accuracy on both his goals.

Second star: Simpson. An impressive 49 saves for someone who hadn’t started in a while.

Third star: Fadden. A goal and two assists, the Tips had no answer for him tonight. Best player on the ice as far as I’m concerned.

The Herald’s honorable mention: Chet Pickard, Tri-City. I can’t believe I’m writing this after the clunker of a first goal he gave up, but he went on to record some nice saves among his 35.

LINEUP NOTES

Everett remains without forwards Tyler Maxwell (knee) and Paul Van de Velde (shoulder) because of injury. Defenseman Drew McDermott was listed as a healthy scratch for the second straight night, which given it’s parents weekend leads me to believe he’s sick. Forward Tyler Parker was the other healthy scratch.

Tri-City was missing defenseman and top enforcer Mitch McColm, who’s still recovering from a concussion. Forwards Brock Zimak and Spencer Asuchak and goaltender Drew Owsley were healthy scratches.
