@Headline briefly item 16 light:Two Sno-Isle librarians honored
Two librarians recently received the 2009 Malstrom Award from the League of Snohomish Historical Organizations.
Karen Prasse, librarian and a volunteer at the Stanwood Area Historical Society, and Leslie Moore, managing librarian of the Stanwood-Camano branch of the Sno-Isle Library System, received the awards at the annual Malstrom Award Banquet.
Prasse was named president of the league.

@Headline briefly item 16 light:Lynnwood Kiwanis helps food bank
The Lynnwood Kiwanis club recently donated $1,000 to the Mountlake Terrace Concern For Neighbors Food Bank. Larry Merwin, a Kiwanis Club board member, presented a certificate for the funds to Judy Westman, volunteer.
The Kiwanis Club of Lynnwood held food drives and made financial contributions to both the Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace Food Banks during the Christmas holidays.
@Headline briefly item 16 light:Girl scouts donate Christmas stockings
Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 2466 recently donated 150 Christmas stockings to the Farm’s Miracle on 92nd Street Christmas party, a ministry serving the area’s homeless.
The girls helped plan the event and also stuffed stockings, wrapped gifts, sorted clothing, baked cookies and helped distribute books to the children and adults who attended the event.
@Headline briefly item 16 light:Lions club gives $3,325 to food bank
The Edmonds Lions Club recently held a raffle, raising $3,325 for the Edmonds Food Bank at its annual Christmas party. Ten people won raffle items.
The club presented a certificate for the funds to Peggy Kennedy, Edmonds Food Bank director, at the January meeting.
@Headline briefly item 16 light:Firefighters receive $38,000 grant
The North County Regional Fire Authority in Stanwood recently received a $38,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The grant was part of the total $979,676 in grants awarded to local fire departments and organizations in Washington.
Nationally, the program is expected to provide roughly $500 million to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country for fiscal year 2008.
The grant programs are administered by the Grant Programs Directorate and the United States Fire Administration.
@Headline briefly item 16 light:League receives $7,500 donation
The Assistance League of Everett recently received a $7,500 donation from The Everett Clinic Foundation. The funds are intended for Operation School Bell, the oldest and largest philanthropic program of the Assistance League.
Operation School Bell provides new school clothing to children from low-income families and foster homes throughout Snohomish County.
The funds will be used to provide new school wardrobes for 70 children.
The Everett Clinic Foundation was established in 1994 by clinic staff and physicians.
@Headline briefly item 16 light:Arlington Rotary delivers food aid
The Rotary Club of Arlington recently purchased and delivered 55 food baskets to Arlington families during its annual food-basket drive.
The Arlington Food Bank provided the list of families. The club’s board of directors also matched amounts donated by members, giving the match amount directly to the food bank.
Members of the Rotary Club and their families met at Safeway in Arlington to buy the food and then transported it to Soccer First to assemble the baskets for delivery.
Snow created difficulties with delivery, but members were able to deliver all the food.
