I-5 lane closures set tonight near Arlington

ARLINGTON — Road crews plan to close two lanes on southbound I-5 near Arlington tonight for pavement grinding and barrier work.

Drivers can expect to see one lane of southbound I-5 at 172nd Street NE closed at 7 p.m., with a second lane closed at 9 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.

Crews plan to grind pavement in the roadway shoulder to prepare the area for future construction of a two-lane onramp from westbound 172nd to southbound I-5. After completing the grinding, crews will place barriers along the shoulder to create a safe work zone. The new onramp will involve a right turn from the right lane of 172nd and will loop around to the right lane of I-5. The ramp will replace the current left-hand turn for drivers westbound on 172nd.
