Boeing still in the negative after new orders; Poll updated

Despite winning three new 777 orders this week, Boeing remains in the hole this year with -10 orders.

The company received a new 777 order from Air New Zealand and two from an unidentified customer, according to an update Thursday on its orders and deliveries Web page.

But Boeing has taken in 32 cancellations for its delayed 787, not including the rumored Delta order for 18 Dreamliners.

At this point last year, Boeing had 190 jet orders.

As of the end of January, Airbus also had negative orders. The company updates its order tally monthly.

So far, Herald readers are pretty optimistic about the number of orders Boeing and Airbus will see this year, in our informal poll. Only 19 percent of you think the two jet makers will receive more cancellations this year than new orders. And 31 percent of you think the two will receive a total of 301 to 500 new orders in 2009.
