TACOMA — After falling behind by 10 points, the Lake Stevens boys basketball team stormed back in the fourth quarter and earned the first Class 4A state tournament victory in program history.
Lake Stevens outscored Decatur 19-6 in the fourth quarter and won a loser-out consolation game 59-56 Thursday at the Tacoma Dome.
Sean Stickney had a huge game for Lake Stevens. The senior post scored 30 points, grabbed 15 rebounds (both game highs) and tallied five assists. Making its first 4A state tourney appearance and first state trip at any classification in 27 years, Lake Stevens (21-5) plays Eisenhower (26-2) at 12:30 p.m. Friday in another loser-out game. The Vikings can still place as high as fifth in the 16-team tournament.
“It feels awesome — first state win in a long time,” Lake Stevens coach Mark Hein said. “It’s just great for our town and great for our program.”
In its first-round game Wednesday, Lake Stevens lost to Garfield 54-39. Junior forward Shane Kaska contributed 15 points and six rebounds for Lake Stevens.
