Everett: Extension for land-use permits
The Everett City Council voted 6-0 to extend the life of land-use permits, to allow developers more time to build approved projects.
Builders can now ask for up to four years to start building, once they get initial permits.
Previously, environmental land-use permits in Everett were good for 18 months, with the possibility of one six-month extension.
Under the new rule, initial approval would be for two years, with the possibility of two one-year extensions.
The new city ordinance is temporary and scheduled to expire on Jan. 1, 2012.
The ordinance also requires that any project requesting an extension of time must comply with development regulations in effect at the time of the request.

Mountlake Terrace: New pavilion advised
A city advisory group has recommended that the city build a new recreation pavilion.
The panel recommended that a new activity center be built next to the current, aging Recreation Pavilion at 5303 228th St. SW, and that afterward the current one be torn down. The new pavilion would be designed with input from the public.
The group made suggestions for other city features as well, including repaving the parking lot at the Lake Ballinger Golf Course, adding property to Fireman’s Park and establishing interim farmer’s market location for this spring and summer.
The City Council plans to review all the recommendations this summer to determine the next steps.
