Arlington High fields Relay for Life team
Relay captain Alyssa Jones and her National Honor Society Relay for Life team from Arlington High School are raising money for cancer research. The group members hope to raise at least $,1000.
The team will walk all night in shifts for Relay for Life on May 29 and 30 at Stanwood High School.
Team members are Amanda Lyon, Amye Ellsworth, Alyssa Jones, Ashlee Hudson, Yuki Dorff, Kim Castaneda, Tiffany Cool, Laura Dietz, Eden Moss, Daneen Natac, Bailey Taylor and Olivia Woodard.
Marilee Schneider is the adviser and Heather Jones is the chaperone.
Third-graders pack kits for Gospel Mission
Third-grade students from St. Mary Magdalen School in Everett held a bake sale for other students to raise money for supplies for the homeless.
Students baked and sold items to purchase toothbrush supplies to make into kits and donated them to the Everett Gospel Mission.
Local students win for music prowess
The Snohomish County Music Teachers’ Association recently named its annual Trudy Woll Composition Competition winners for 2009.
The competition is named for Trudy Woll, who promoted musical composition and was the state chairman for the Washington State Music Teachers’ Association for many years.
Woll lived in Everett before retiring to Stanwood.
Winners include:
First grade: First place, Leanne Kniest; second place, Kathren Perryfoor.
Third grade: First place Holly Hartley.
Fourth grade: First place Joe Bazile; second place, Jordan Bergevin.
Fifth grade: First place, McKaulay Kolakowski; second place, George Pratt; honorable mention, Hannah Duffy and Elijah Bergevin.
Sixth grade: First place, Marjabelle Kumley.
Seventh grade: First place, Robert Ferrill.
Eighth grade: First place, Sean Ferrill.
10th grade: First place, Stephen Trent.
11th grade: First place, John Metcalf.
Gonzaga University names president’s list
The following students are among those chosen for Gonzaga University’s president’s list for fall semester 2008:

Students must earn a 3.7 or better grade-point average to be listed.
Mukilteo student makes Marist College dean’s list
Storm Heitman of Mukilteo was named to the Marist College dean’s list for the fall 2008 semester.
Marist is an independent comprehensive liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., with an enrollment of 4,300 full-time undergraduate students from 39 states and seven countries.
Discovery students donate stuffed bears
The Discovery PTA and students recently presented a batch of stuffed bears to firefighters from nearby Mariner Fire Station, who visited the school with the ladder truck.
The students have been donating teddy bears to Fire District 1 for more than 10 years.
