50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Thirty-six years of teaching in the same classroom was coming to an end soon for Martha Floe at Garfield School. The retiring first-grade teacher said she loved teaching.
Starting today at the Thunderbird Drive-In, three miles north of Everett at the Marysville cloverleaf, was “The Perfect Furlough” starring Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. The second feature was “The Female Animal” starring Hedy Lamarr, Jane Powell, Jan Sterling and George Nader. Admission was 80 cents for adults, 25 cents for youth 12 to 14, and free for kids under 12.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Snohomish County Executive Willis Tucker won hearty support from the County Council for his plan to hire a full-time staff member to help the county prepare for the arrival of a Navy carrier task force. Tucker also said the county was preparing a comprehensive response about the potential impact the Navy might have.
The Venture Club of Everett was to install its 1984-85 incoming officers on June 6. They were Crystal Urbick, president; Carol Wheeler, vice-president; Cheryl Murray, secretary; and Melody Mistlin, director. The Venture Club was a community service organization for young women in business who would like to help their community.
