$5.59 million for forest road work

EVERETT — Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is set to receive $5.59 million in federal stimulus funds, primarily for road repair and maintenance.
“This is very good news for our local communities and the Puget Sound ecosystem,” forest supervisor Rob Iwamoto said.
The region is vulnerable to winter storms that damage roads and trails in the forest, Iwamoto said, and good roads minimize the amount of sediment dumped into fish habitat.
In Snohomish County, there are seven projects worth about $1.56 million.
They include work on Forest Service Road 2810, Dan Creek Road, Sauk Road, Black Creek Road and bridge, Conn Creek bridge and the Mountain Loop Highway.
The Forest Service received $356,000 for repair and maintenance on the scenic highway, which connects Darrington and Granite Falls.
