50 YEARS AGO (1959)

A.B. Colburn was named principal of the new high school in Everett, which would open in September 1960. Presently vice principal for curriculum at Everett High School, he would continue in that work for the next school year.

Col. Claude E. Whitehead of Everett, who retired from the U.S. Army on May 31 after 27 years of active and reserve duty, was honored by members of his command at a retirement party at Naval Officers Club in Seattle.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)

Louise Lynn was honored at a reception at Frontier Bank in observance of her retirement June 15. A secretary and administrative assistant, she had 40 years in banking and had been with Frontier Bank since its founding over five years ago.

Logging a total of 163 years on the job at The Herald were five news and photo department employees who were subjected to a coffee and cake hour in the newsroom. Toasted and roasted were Ray Watters, photo engraving, 40 years; Will Nessly, sports, 35 years; Allan May, reporter, and Jim Leo, photographer, 30 years each; and Ned Carrick, reporter, 28 years.
