Published 2:43 pm Sunday, July 19, 2009

Here’s an incentive for all you young musicians who have a hard time practicing in the dog days of summer. The First Annual Successful Summer Music Contest might be just that boost you need.

The contest is for students of violin, viola, cello and piano, and is co-sponsored by the Gene Nastri School and the Everett Symphony Orchestra.

Each participant receives a gold or a silver certificate. Gold winners will be invited to perform in a concert at the Everett Symphony Recital Hall, 2710 Colby Ave., Everett, and will also be featured during the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival held Sept. 11 to 13.

Students will be required to play an ensemble piece and a solo work of choice. The registration deadline is Aug. 14. Completed registration forms along with a $15 fee must be mailed to: Gene Nastri School, 304 Lincoln Ave., Suite 202, Mukilteo, WA 98271.

Judging for the contest will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 29. For a registration form, call contest coordinator Carol Harkins at 425-308-5503 or e-mail info@genenastrischool.org.
