SEATTLE — The Washington State Patrol arrested a 20-year-old Everett man who a patrol report said fled the scene of a serious injury collision on I-5 in Seattle.
About 11 p.m. Thursday, a car was spotted speeding through a construction zone in the southbound lanes of I-5 in north Seattle. When the car approached the left lane closure just south of Northgate, the driver couldn’t stop in time and rear ended a BMW sport utility vehicle, causing serious injury to his passenger, according to State Patrol reports.
The man left his passenger, who was unconscious, in the car and fled on foot. Troopers and Seattle police searched the area but were unable to find the driver.
About 3:40 a.m. Friday, a man was spotted hitchhiking near the northbound lanes of I-5 just north of the King-Snohomish county line. The man matched the description of person who caused the earlier accident.
He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was booked into the King County Jail on Friday evening for investigation of vehicle assault and hit-and-run, according to Washington State Patrol trooper Dan McDonald.
