TALKING POINTS
Pretty good game by the Tips tonight. Everett controlled play for the most part, and after going ahead late in the first period the lead never was in doubt. The Tips also seemed to have a better idea about executing the gameplan than they did when I saw them last weekend.
But honestly, I’m having a hard time reading too much into this because I don’t know if it was because Everett was that good or Seattle was that bad. There were a couple five-on-five shifts where the Tips kept the puck in the offensive zone for a ridiculously long time. Given Everett was playing its third game in three nights while Seattle was fully rested, and given the Tips were playing without an entire scoring line, perhaps their top two defensemen and their No. 1 goaltender, Everett really shouldn’t have been able to do that to anyone. Granted, Seattle was missing some players, too.
I think it’s safe to say Everett’s lines aren’t set yet. Just about everyone played on the line with Shane Harper and Zack Dailey at some point tonight. Seriously, they must have had six or seven different guys on their wing tonight.
I also don’t envy the Tips having to make their final cuts. It’s going to be a tough call on those last couple roster spots.
TURNING POINT
The game was pretty even during the first period when Harper tipped in a Ryan Murray shot at 17:41. Once gaining the lead, the Tips took the game over.
HIT OF THE DAY
About five minute into the game Everett’s Cameron Abney destroyed James Bettauer right in front of the Seattle goal.
THREE STARS (mine)
First star: Harper. Two goals, he was absolutely everywhere out there tonight.
Second star: Kent Simpson, Everett. 28 saves for the shutout, was strong in the first period when he was needed.
Third star: Chris de la Lande, Everett. No points, but the defenseman was dangerous from the blue line and solid in his own zone.
