Maltby: Auction to benefit respite house

An auction to benefit Anayat House, a Texas-based home that offers respite to families visiting hospitalized relatives is set for 5 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Snoqualmie Gourmet Ice Cream store, 21106 86th Ave. SE, Maltby. Founded 15 years ago by Mimi Daniali of Edmonds, the house in Beaumont, Texas, was created in memory of her father, Anayat. Tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door.

Lynnwood: Contest celebrates city’s 50th

The city of Lynnwood’s Office of Economic Development is sponsoring a Why I Love Lynnwood photography contest in conjunction with the city’s 50th anniversary. Applicants don’t have to live in Lynnwood, and there’s no entry fee. Photographers selected will be awarded $100 and their photo will be displayed at the 50th anniversary closing ceremony next April.

Arlington: American Legion to be honored

American Legion Post 76 is to be honored at 7 tonight by Mayor Margaret Larson and the Arlington City Council in the council chambers, 110 E. Third St.

The post is celebrating the American Legion’s 90th anniversary of its charter formation after World War I. About 700 veterans and their families belong the Post 76.

Among a long list of volunteer work, the Arlington post gives scholarships, distributes toys for children during the holiday season and places flags at the cemetery.

Island County: Burn ban lifted

The outdoor burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Island County is set to be lifted at 8 this morning.

In unincorporated Island County, you may burn a 4-foot-square section of natural vegetation without a permit.

Only natural vegetation (leaves, grass and tree trimmings) may be burned. It is never legal to burn garbage, household trash, lumber, building construction waste or demolition debris.
