Marine Corps Sgt. James M. Mix recently was awarded a special Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal for his performance as a platoon sergeant during his recent service in Afghanistan. The award recognizes Mix’s leadership in more than 65 combat missions. Mix is based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He joined the Marine Corps in 2001. Mix grew up in the Getchell area near Lake Stevens. He is the son of Diana Mix, the brother of Jared Mix, husband of Nora and father of Anthony and Aaron.
Air Force Reserve Col. (Dr.) Paul Abson is serving at Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan. His role while deployed as a flight surgeon is to provide medical support to the squadron air crew and maintenance personnel. He also works at the Army hospital in Kandahar as an ear nose and throat consultant and participates in the surgical care of trauma patients. Abson is on the staff at The Everett Clinic in Everett.
Air Force Airman Josef S. Comerford graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Judy Comerford of Arlington and Steve Comerford of Marysville, and is a 2006 graduate of Arlington High School.
Army National Guard Pfc. Adam J. Burgess has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Donna Burgess of Langley and John Burgess of Everett. Burgess graduated in 2008 from South Whidbey High School and received an associate’s degree in 2008 from Skagit Valley College.
Coast Guard Seaman Jordan Light, son of Bonnie and Dale Light of Lynnwood, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J. Light is a 2007 graduate of Meadowdale High School.
Army Pvt. Andrew R. Rios has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Rios earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Sharon Rios of Everett and is a 2006 graduate of Cascade High School.
Army Pvt. Matthew R. Hert has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Jet Comfort of Auburn and Ron Hert of Everett. Matthew Hert is a 2008 graduate of Independence High School, Alger.
