Brier: Open house celebrates anniversary

The Emergency Services Coordinating Agency, 2901 228th St. SW, Brier, will hold an open house to celebrate its 25th anniversary from 3 to 7 p.m. today.

The organization provides emergency services planning and training for the cities of Brier, Mountlake Terrace, Mill Creek, Lynnwood, Lake Forest Park and Woodinville.

Lake Stevens: Learn how to prevent fires

The Lake Stevens Fire Department is planning a fire prevention event for Saturday.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Haggen Food and Drug, 8915 Market Place.

The theme of the day will be Stay Fire Smart, Don’t Get Burned! Firefighters will give tours of emergency vehicles, quiz kids on their fire safety knowledge and will have interactive booths for kids and adults as well.

The event is scheduled in conjunction with Risk Watch, a school program that promotes injury prevention. Students may participate in a poster contest for National Fire Prevention Month in October.

Mill Creek: Public garden ideas sought

The city of Mill Creek is looking at potential locations for a community garden and is interested in hearing from residents.

The garden site, which the city hopes to have in place by next spring, would be divided into individual plots of about 60 square feet available for an annual rental fee of about $50.

Senior center open house on Wednesday

The Mill Creek Senior Center, 15720 Main St., will host an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Refreshments will be served.

Mountlake Terrace: Planning Commission stops paper packets

The city’s planning commission on Sept. 14 agreed to do away with paper meeting packets, a move that officials say is in line with a sustainability strategy the City Council adopted last year.

Future agendas and other information for consideration by the commission will be provided by e-mail.

Anyone can get paper copies by request.
