Pantone, a leading authority on color forecasting for designers, has announced its color of the year for 2010: Turquoise.
“Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, turquoise inspires thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a comforting escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing,” Pantone said in a press release.
In other words, we can expect to see more cool blues this year in retail because many industry leaders follow Pantone’s influential color forecast.
That includes the Dessy bridal line at www.dessy.com and Pantone’s eco-friendly paint line at www.pantonepaint.com.
Turquoise promises to be universally flattering for men and women, according to Pantone, and translates easily to fashion and interiors.
That’s thanks to warm and cool undertones that pair well not just with neutrals and browns but also reds and pinks, deep blues and greens.
Forecasters expect turquoise to be especially trend-setting when paired with various shades of yellow-green.
Some perspective: The 2009 color of the year was mimosa, a deep, rich yellow.
