Air Force Airman Joshua A. Lemke graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Duane Lemke of Granite Falls and Tammie Andrews of Lake Stevens. Joshua Lemke is a 2006 graduate of Granite Falls High School.
Air Force Airman Alan W. Butner graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Lori and Jeff Butner of Marysville, and grandson of Ben and Jeanne VanDam of Lake Stevens, Dorothy Butner of Marysville, and Richard and Barb Butner of Arlington. Alan Butner is a 2008 graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School. He graduated with an associate’s degree in 2009 from Everett Community College.
Navy Seaman John Gohranson has been assigned to the USS Nassau, which has been deployed to Haiti to assist with medical assessments and provide aid. Gohranson graduated from Lake Stevens High in 2008. His mother is Lori Bush. Other family members include Jeremy Gohranson and Mark, Joey, Jacob, Zoey and Holli Bush, all of Lake Stevens.
Navy Seaman Apprentice Hunter Couffer, son of Stephanie Fussell of Camano Island and Albert Couffer of Arlington, was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Couffer received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. Hunter Couffer is a 2009 graduate of Stanwood High School.
Navy Seaman Apprentice Lacy C. West, a 2009 graduate of Stanwood High School, recently completed basic training at U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Navy Seaman Recruit Nikolas W. Ngo, a 2008 graduate of Lincoln Hill High School, Stanwood, recently completed basic training at U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Army Pvt. Cody M. Smit has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Monique Kelley and grandson of Ilse Smit of Snohomish. Cody Smit is a 2009 graduate of Snohomish High School.
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Tim M. Larsen, a 1988 graduate of Bothell High School, recently retired from active duty after 20 years of service. Larsen most recently served at the Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Norfolk, Va.
Army Spc. Tyler D. Olsen has been mobilized at Fort Dix, N.J., in preparation for deployment. The soldier is a member of the 103rd Public Affairs Detachment based in Helena, Mont. Olsen, a broadcaster, has served in the military for two years. He is the son of Shawn Olsen of Oak Harbor and Polly Phillips of Costa Mesa, Calif.
Army Pfc. James H. Jones graduated from the field artillery automated tactical data systems specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Jones is a fire direction control specialist. He is the son of Leah Eddington of Freeland and grandson of Carol Hargitt of Langley. The private graduated in 2007 from South Whidbey High School.
Army National Guard Pfc. Kirc W. Hale has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Renee Trussell of Granite Falls, and is a 1996 graduate of Granite Falls High School.
Army Pvt. Donaven S. Medina-Guerrero has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Liz Guerrero of San Antonio, Texas, and nephew of Al Guerrero of Everett.
The Washington National Guard welcomed home from Afghanistan on Saturday about 25 citizen soldiers, including one from Snohomish County and one from Island County. The soldiers belong to the Washington Army National Guard’s Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of the 741st Ordinance Battalion based in Tacoma. They served a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan.
