Soft, airy and graceful.
That’s how music reviewers have described the voice of Sweden’s Sofia Talvik, whose songs touch on themes of love and heartbreak along with a healthy dose of personal anecdotal stories.
Talvik’s vocals are backed by minimal instrumentation, including an acoustic guitar, cello, double bass, soft percussion and sometimes piano, to create melodic tapestries, revealing the world of a 32-year-old songwriter traversing an array of emotions.
In 2005, Talvik released her debut album, “Blue Moon” to much acclaim. That was followed in 2007 by “Street of Dreams,” on which Talvik sings this line in a duet with veteran British performer Bernard Butler: “It’s just love, how hard can it be?”
Her latest fairy tale hymn, “Diamonds” has been described as light and magical.
Talvik performs at 8 tonight at the Historic Hartley Mansion, 2320 Rucker Ave., Everett, and again at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Nordic Heritage Museum, 3014 NW 67th St., Seattle.
Tickets for the Everett performance are $27 for museum members, seniors, students and military and $30 for nonmembers.
For the Seattle performance, tickets are $22.50 for museum members, seniors, students and military and $25 for nonmembers.
