MONROE — Highway 522 was closed for about seven hours on Monday following a serious accident that injured three adults, Monroe police said.

A Toyota 4Runner was eastbound on the highway at 6:32 a.m. when it crossed the centerline, striking a westbound sports utility vehicle.

Both vehicles were destroyed, police said. Both drivers, a Mill Creek man, 46, and a Snohomish man, 53, were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A passenger in the Toyota, a 48-year-old Bothell woman, was also taken to the hospital.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation on Monday afternoon, police said.
