SNOHOMISH — Police closed the Avenue D Bridge on Saturday morning as negotiators worked to talk down a woman threatening to jump off the bridge.

Police and fire crews were summoned about 10:20 a.m. after reports that a woman was standing on the railing of the bridge at Airport Road, Snohomish police Cmdr. George Perillo said. Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies also responded.

The woman stood 40 feet above the Snohomish River. Negotiators talked to the woman and firefighters helped her to safety, Perillo said.

She was taken to a hospital to get help.

Traffic backed up as the bridge was closed for about an hour and a half, Snohomish County Fire District 4 Battalion Chief Craig Heike said.
