Everett: Council approves 2010 budget

City leaders made their final adjustments to this year’s operating budget.

The City Council approved an amendment that adjusted 2010 expenditures to take into account $403,144 more in revenue.

The extra revenue comes mainly from grants for various projects. The Everett Police Department, for instance, received $33,192 from the U.S. Department of Justice for bulletproof vests.

The revenue also includes a transfer of $200,000 from a city capital fund into the operating budget. That money is destined to pay for a U.S. 2 corridor planning study.

Even with the changes, the city still expects a balanced budget by the end of the year.

City to sell golf carts, then lease new ones

City leaders approved a resolution to sell off Everett’s golf course carts and go back to leasing them.

Four years ago the city decided to try buying golf carts for its two golf courses, rather than leasing.

While owning the carts has allowed the courses to keep more money, they’re now stuck with a fleet of carts that need expensive repairs, the parks director said.

Plus, golfers don’t like renting dinged up carts as much as new ones.

The resolution authorized the city to surplus and sell 120 carts at an estimated value of $144,000 or $1,200 per cart.

The city plans to go back to leasing a fleet and new carts could be on the greens by as early as next summer.

Mountlake Terrace: Planning commission member appointed

At their Dec. 6 meeting, the Mountlake Terrace City Council appointed Miguel Sandoval to the Planning Commission to fill a vacancy.

The term runs through June 30.

Responsibilities include making recommendations on the City’s Comprehensive Plan and development code updates.

Sultan: Help for those with holiday blues

To help people who didn’t have a good year and don’t feel like celebrating, the city is sponsoring the event, “Holiday Cheer.”

This non-religious, non-holiday event wants to bring the community together and celebrate the longest night in the year, grants and economic development coordinator Donna Murphy said.

“Holiday Cheer” will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sultan Visitors Center, 320 Main St.

This is the first time the event is held. It is sponsored by the city and the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce.

There will be hot beverages, and cookies.

Sultan City Council approves 2011 budget

Less revenue for property taxes and cancellation of streets repairs are some of the main characteristics of the 2011 budget.

The City Council approved the almost $10 million budget last week.

In the general fund, the revenue will be $1.87 million. Expenses are projected to be at $1.8 million.

The revenue from property taxes has dropped by approximately $616,000.

The street fund was the most affected by the cuts, by being reduced $60,000 compared to this year.

The cuts means repairs on streets like 3rd Street and East Main Street will not be done in 2011.
