Everett: Grants for two neighborhoods
City leaders approved a plan to dole out money to two Everett neighborhoods for projects.
The Port Gardner Neighborhood Association will receive $3,580 to make improvements to its Charles Street p-patch.
The Valley View-Sylvan Crest-Larimer Ridge Neighborhood Association is expected to receive $8,950 to help build a commons area in the Valley View neighborhood.
People living in the neighborhoods and local businesses have pledged $23,885 to match the city funds.
The money comes from Everett’s Office of Neighborhoods, which provides matching funds to support projects by neighborhood associations that enhance city life or beautify the city.
Mill Creek: City cuts hours to get permits
Mill Creek is cutting hours at its building-permit counter.
Starting this week, the counter will close on Fridays. That means the city won’t be accepting permit applications or issuing permits for the day.
Generally, inspections will be available between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, early-morning and late-afternoon inspections will no longer be available after Feb. 28.
Mountlake Terrace: See photos of birds
Photographs taken by naturalist Phil McCrain will be on display today through Jan. 31 at the Mountlake Terrace Library. McCrain’s subjects are birds in their natural habitats.
McCrain’s photos have been shown in galleries in Snohomish and Monroe, and at the Arts of the Terrace Art show. The Seattle photographer describes birds as “nature’s flying jewels.” Experienced in exploring Northwest mountains, lakes, streams and beaches, McCrain seeks locations that allow for photographing birds without disturbing them.
The exhibit is presented by the Mountlake Terrace Arts Commission. The Mountlake Terrace Library is at 23300 58th Ave. W., and is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
Guitar Hero contest for teens Wednesday
A Guitar Hero tournament, open to teens, is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W. next to the old City Hall.
The contest is sponsored by the Friends of the Mountlake Terrace Library.
