Everett: Learn how to prepare for disasters
The public is welcome to attend the Safe and Sound Summit put on by the Everett Office of Emergency Management.
It’s set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hall at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd.
The summit is intended to help people learn about the hazards that affect Everett and how to prepare for them. Officials plan to share strategies to lessen the impacts of disasters before they happen.

MLK Jr. breakfast set for Wednesday
A Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast that honors many local children is set to take place 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, 3105 Pine St., Everett.
The event was canceled because of bad weather.
Reservations for the re-scheduled breakfast should be made by calling the new breakfast reservation line at 425-257-8751 or via email at kreardon@ci.everett.wa.us.
Please make a reservation again even if you called for the original breakfast. A $10 donation is suggested.
Sultan: Help plan Boys & Girls Club
Volunteers are needed for a committee that plans to advise the city on what the new Sultan Boys & Girls Club should look like.
The old club was destroyed in a fire on Christmas Eve.
People interested need to send a letter of interest to City Hall at 319 Main St., Suite 200 or at P.O. Box 1199, Sultan, WA 98294.
Letters can also be e-mailed to volunteer coordinator Donna Murphy at donna.murphy@ci.sultan.wa.us.
People interested must apply by 4 p.m. Feb. 7.
Letters of interest must be marked as “Blue Ribbon Committee,” describe the reason for wanting to serve and any relevant background in planning and building community facilities.
The City Council is scheduled to confirm the members selected by Mayor Carolyn Eslick at its Feb. 10 meeting. This committee is expected to meet a maximum of two meetings per month for up to six months starting late February.
