Camano Island fire victim identified

CAMANO ISLAND — The woman who died in an early Sunday morning fire on Camano Island has been identified as Elaine Walters, according to Island County authorities.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigat

ion, sheriff’s detective Ed Wallace said Tuesday.

At this point, the manner of death appears accidental, Island County Coroner Robert Bishop said.

Walters, 85, could not escape the house fire in the 600 block of Gladstone Drive.

Her son, Charles, 59, who lived in the same home, was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries and released.

The home was a total loss, Wallace said.

“We do not foresee releasing any additional information until the cause and origin reports are completed,” Wallace said.
