Camano Island: Talk on gray whales tonight
Island County’s WSU Camano Beach Watchers group plans to host Howard Garrett from the Orca Network to talk about the gray whales in Saratoga Passage at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive. The program is free.

Darrington: Trout derby set for Saturday
The Darrington Firemen’s Association presents its annual Kids Trout Derby from 6 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fortson Mill Pond, west of Swede Heaven Road.
Contestants cannot be older than age 14 and must have their own tackle and bait. Registration and parental permission is required. Prizes are offered for three age groups. The event is free.

Public meeting on Darrington volunteers
Fire District 24 volunteers and Darrington’s ambulance volunteers are having trouble agreeing to work together.
Mayor Joyce Jones has called a public meeting set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Darrington Community Center, 570 Sauk Ave.
Granite Falls: School superintendent search
The Granite Falls School District Board of Directors has scheduled several special board meetings to help with the search for a new superintendent.
Meetings are planned at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 3, and 5 in the Administration Center Board Room located at 307 N. Alder Ave.
The agenda for each night is the same and consists of personnel qualifications for new superintendent candidates.

Lakewood: Schools to host technology expo
Lakewood School District teachers and students plan to host the second annual Technology Expo from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the commons at Lakewood Middle School, 16800 16th Drive NE.
Student technology projects will be shared, interactive displays are to be available for the public to investigate.

Marysville: Relay for Life rummage sale
The city’s Relay for Life team is planning a rummage sale Saturday to support the 2011 Relay For Life of Marysville/Tulalip.
The sale is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot just south of Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.
The rummage sale coincides with a shred-a-thon in the Marysville Municipal Court parking lot, 1015 State Ave.
